From the Editor's Desk
As moments tick bye, every move of the miniscule entity effects a clockwork, some in harmony and others, in dissonance. It is not the desired that may be harmonious, yet it’s harmony that is desired. When the harmonious be not part of the desirable, human beings elude their desire for goodness. It puts the environment at strife. May be if it were known, the environment as a self propelling agency would have been cautious. For the desired and the harmonious, they would have said three cheers.
BNA with its humble beginnings has grown in leaps and bounds, both in its subscriber base and coverage. At this time, I would like to thank the Alumni for their continued support and the helping hand they have rendered.

Alumni Induction Meet
Chennai, 15th April: The Alumni Meet on the 15th of April, 2007 had a very special purpose indeed. It was on this day that the 22nd batch of students from BIM, Trichy were to be inducted into the BIM Alumni Association. The venue for this momentous occasion was the Aruna Quality Inn in Nungambakkam. Tea was served at 4.30 pm to invigorate the participants ahead of the meeting.
More than 70 students from the 22nd Batch thronged the evening. The turnout from the other batches was disappointing, as usual. Most of the BIMites from the 22nd batch were already flaunting their new Alumni Association T-Shirts. But the relevance of the quote on T-Shirt was a bit cryptic for the comprehension of many observers. The entire gathering was in a jovial mood and the crowd of around 100 BIMites moved on to the next phase of the meeting with much expectation.
The entire audience noted with interest and appreciation the presence of the only stall put up by a Student Team, the BNA. The pains taken by the BNA to print posters and to distribute promotional material was lauded by all.

The meeting started at around 5.00 pm. The Alumni Association office bearers under the leadership of the President Mr. Siddharthan occupied their places on the dais. The President welcomed all the people present and specially the members of the 22nd Batch who were to be later inducted into the Alumni Association.
After his welcome address, the President called forward the members of the BIM News Agency, an autonomous student run organization, and showered praises on them for their efforts to keep the Alumni Community aware of happenings in BIM, Trichy. He was joined in this by all Alumni members present. The Founder-Editor of the BNA, Zubin Somervell of BIM 21, The Former Editor of the BNA, Paras Kapoor of BIM 22, BNA Team members Vidya, I. M. Mohan and Suman Kanti Paul of BIM 22, the present Editor of the BNA, Shiju of BIM 23 and BNA Team member Deepa of BIM 23 were introduced to the audience amidst wild applause.
The President stressed on the importance of the alumni being well informed about the happenings of the institute, which would be possible by supporting the BNA groups at Yahoo. http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/BNA_bim/The President also informed the audience that the BNA would be distributing promotional CDs at the end of the meeting to all the Alumni members gathered there. Mr. Siddharth then invited Mr. Jagdish of BIM 23 to present his appeal.

Mr. Jagdish and his team had been working on an initiative to impart primary computer education to children of the Burma Colony Government School. The school had a few computers donated by BHEL and they were in need of few more. He requested the alumni fraternity to donate used computers for the purpose. The programme moved on to the main event.
Sections of the audience which had been growing pretty restive began causing a few issues to the organizers. The students of BIM 22 and some other Alumni members moved out of the hall into the corridor and started interacting with each other. The confusion was compounded by some BIMites who tried to be part of both gatherings by walking into and out of the hall at irritatingly frequent intervals.
Matters came to a head when the corridor became noisy beyond tolerable limits. One of the senior BIMites stormed out of the hall into the corridor and blasted the undisciplined crowd. This served to keep the ‘out-standing’ bunch in check for the rest of the meeting. But this apparent disrespect for the Alumni Association, the senior Alumni and the Office Bearers will definitely have a negative impact on all the students of the 22nd Batch for a long time.

The President tried to give announcing that the Treasurer of the BIM Alumni Association would be organizing some entertainment towards the end of the meeting. He then invited on stage some distinguished Alumni from the senior batches of BIM, Trichy who had come for the meet.Among the biggies were Mr. Nandakumar, Mr. Reginald, Mr. Anant Kumar, and Mr. Dinesh. Mr. Srinivasan, owner of the BIM alumni groups on Yahoo invited alumni to be part of the group. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bimalumtrichy/ and to actively voice concerns to keep the Alumni Association active. This gave the newly inducted students an opportunity to interact with Alumni who were domain experts with varied expertise and enormous experience.
There was a very serious session by thealumni who drew upon their vast learning to prepare students for what they could expect and would face in the corporate world. The question answer session was also quite informative.
Inevitably, as all Alumni Association meetings go, the discussions turned to our beloved Alma Mater. The President diplomatically informed the gathering at the very beginning of the discussion that there was nothing the Alumni Association could do to influence administrative decisions in BIM. This led to a heated debate between the BIMites of the 22nd Batch and other senior alumni about the role of the Alumni and the Alumni Association in the running of BIM. The current state of BIM and its future were discussed in much detail but no solid promises could be elicited from the Alumni Association office bearers.
In this tense atmosphere, when charges were being traded between senior alumni and the 22nd Batch students about who was more apathetic about the state of affairs, there was a mini conference going on in the back benches of the hall. BIMites of BIM 21 and a few assorted batches including the 18th were wholeheartedly engaged in multiple discussions of their own. An aggravated Alumnus burst out with vehemence and demanded that the people in these last rows leave the hall. Again, the lack of seriousness of many participants in this meeting was brought to the fore.
The discussion did not yield fruit except that the senior Alumni members promised to visit campus more often and also play a more proactive part in designing the syllabi, ensuring quality faculty and most importantly ensure that placements in BIM kept getting better every year. There was instant applause for this promise of the alumni. But there were also some voices which said that BIM should not become a glorified placement agency and the alumni should not only use their collective strength in ensuring placements but also leverage that strength to put things right in BIM.
The President finally brought the meeting to a close by asking the Treasurer to start the “Fun & Games Activities”. But the smart Treasurer, not wanting to be lynched and sensing that the mood was not festive enough for fun and games, stated frankly that they would not be conducted then.
Following this, the Alumni Association sold T-Shirts to all members present. Piles of T-Shirts, both this year’s and the older stocks were left unsold and are available for sale.
The BNA distributed special commemorative promotional CDs to the gathering. The meeting came to a tame end with BIM 22 leaving for their homes far away among hugs and tears.
