THE KUGELMASS JOURNEY BEGINS FROM BIM

Trichy, 10th September: Dr. Prema Nandkumar, a wellknown speaker and columnist for The Hindu inaugurated the Book Forum of the college on 16th of August 2006. Vetri Kumaran of PGP II whose wholehearted efforts have brought the Book Forum to its present healthy form later named the forum ‘The Kugelmass Journey’. The forum derives its name from the classic fiction by Woody Allen where in the character ‘Kugelmass’ can get into any piece of fiction he wishes to with the help of his magician friend.

In the function also attended by Sunder Sir, Dr. Prema tried to emphasize upon how Literature and Management subjects followed parallel tracks. She shared her
experience of around 50 years of Book Reviewing with the gathering which comprised of both PGP I and PGP II students.

The function saw the birth of a forum which has been pretty active ever since. A couple of books of relevance like ‘The Goal’ and ‘Blue Ocean Strategy’ have already been reviewed by the students of PGP II despite fully packed schedules and a host of other activities going on in the campus. The forum intends not to restrict itself to Management books and instead cover all possible fields and interests including fiction in the long run. Also, there are plans to bring in competitions like ‘Debates’ and Group Discussions.

The newly formed forum has definitely added a new dimension to the already multidimensional co-curricular activities the students here at BIM indulge in.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS

"Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we will redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance.... We end today a period of ill fortune, and India discovers herself again." - Jawaharlal Nehru (Speech on Indian Independence Day, 1947).

Stepping into the 59th year of our Independence, Welfarecom put up a splendid show to celebrate the Independence Day on 15th of August. All the students gathered on the Tuesday morning, to celebrate the hard won freedom, beaming with energy and filled with aspirations. After the Director, Dr. Sankaran hoisted the flag the national anthem was sung that turned the air electric as all stood saluting the flag. Looking back into the past, Director took us through the economic and social development of Mother India since 1947. He called the students of BIM to create a niche for them, and make a difference to the society they lived in. With the message settled 'deep' in the minds of the students, the celebrations ended with sweets, for a while though.

Jayachandran of PGP II along with a bunch of first years took to the Highway in their successful bid to add a new form to the celebrations. The first year Roadies included Arun, Elancheran, Shiju, Sarvanan and DJ.

Earlier, on 14th Night, the local network of the Institute, ‘IP Messenger’ was almost clogged to death as BIMites sent Independence Day wishes to each other along with attachments that ranged from .ppts telling about the Country to videos of the National Anthem. The Build up to the event also included students replacing their profile pictures on orkut with that of the Tricolour. Whole credit goes to Welfare Com for putting up such a great show.

BIM WITNESSES HEAVY MONSOON SHOWERS

BIM, of late, has been witnessing heavy showers, thanks to the HR club, Zetetica. The club has launched the MONSOON, which tries to improve the communication skills of the participants along with adding new dimensions to their knowledge. The tools being used are primarily Group Discussions and Debates. The event is being seen by the second year students as a platform to prepare themselves for the grilling interviews and group discussions that all of them are shortly going to face as placements approach.

The topics being discussed at the forum have been varied; RTI Act, Web blogs, Indian Industrial Dynasty to name a few. The participation has been really encouraging for the club with YLK Sir also attending a few of the sessions and providing the participants with feedback as well as adding points to the discussion.

The event was primarily targeted at PGP II students, but to the amazement of all, has been able to attract even PGP I students. There has been active participation from almost all the corners. Here’s praying that the event will help the students get their dream jobs as and when opportunity strikes. Amen!!!
