COM’ CRUNCHES: PRCOM

The committee that helps in continuous strengthening up the well-established brand ‘BIM’ in the corporate world, struck again by holding up the position of site manager for indiainfoline.com for the month of July. Articles from Prof. Sunder and many students of BIM21 and BIM22 were published by the website. Also the committee has been in regular contact with the media outside by writing about and getting our events covered by the leading newspapers, the recent effort being coverage of Marwar 2006 by THE HINDU, Trichy Edition. Another major activity being undertaken by the committee has been that of providing content for the newly developed college website. With the new recruits coming in, the committee is set to "PR-ize" the Brand BIM to even a greater extent.

COM’ CRUNCHES: SYSCOM

The committee has set off everyone in fast track mode. With the introduction of databases accessible in the hostel rooms last year, the technological improvement has not stopped there. An exclusive server was allocated for the hostel computers with the allocation of 100GB space for storage. This has solved the problems with the last minute download spree from the yahoo groups. Also the storage has an e-notice folder, which has the schedule of this week and the next, which is directly updated by one of the office personnel.

The new look website (http://www.bim.edu/), designed by the Syscom’s Gayathri and unofficial member of the committee, Sankalan with the help of support staff is certainly impressive. The content coming from the alumni for the website has further improved the feel of the website and has been really encouraging. Also the committee has come up with a monthly e-magazine in the form of "KRIYA" which has been uploaded onto the college website (check out the July issue of the magazine at http://www.bim.edu/pdf/Kriya-July2006.pdf) and with the support of PR Committee is also being sent to leading MBA forums like coolavenues.com and indiainfoline.com. Some of the articles from the magazine have already been published by coolavenues.com under its ‘knowledge’ section. With the new team formed, the maintenance of the website and IT infrastructure at campus has been handed over completely to the new recruits.

Also the committee tried to some extent satisfy the otherwise insatiable demand for bandwidth. A proposal of the new connection with higher bandwidth was sought for. But this time, the students had a say in the decision making process regarding the new connection. Students seemed to be extremely delighted with the performance of the new connection (demo version) and also enjoyed to the maximum as Mr. Watchguard, the official firewall was disabled for the demo version. Everyone in the campus is hoping to see the new connection back soon as the demo period has lapsed.

COM’ CRUNCHES: MESSCOM

BIM Mess has noticeably changed for the past one year with various renovations being carried out. The wash area has been extended; the area for the evening snacks is also being renovated. Inside the kitchen, a new separate provision for preparing BIMites’ favourite toasts with omelettes and a new stove for quicker cooking has been provided. According to our sources, behind these improvements, there has been continuous and active participation from each and every MessCom member with the support of the Mess staff. Well, this is not the first time when all of the MessCom members have successfully taken up their responsibilities. They did an excellent job during the summer and executive placements last year.

Not only that, the BIM 22 MessCom have contributed to the welfare of their Mess members by opening an RD account of Rs.500 per head funded by the management. They have also been contributing to the Educational Fund in order to help the mess members’ children get education with each student contributing Rs.5 every month. The educational fund was started off in the month of April 2006. The BIMites also have had the taste of delicacies of crab and prawns. This was also the first time when the girls of BIM 22 were allowed to prepare BHEL PURI for the LH Night party, with full cooperation from the mess members.

BIM 22 MessCom are done with the selection process of the prospective members for the Mess Committee of BIM 23. This is one committee that had most rigorous selection process with three phases involving a GD, 4 Case studies followed with Personal Interviews. 10 candidates have finally been selected to the new committee who will carry on the legacy of Mess-Com.

‘COM’ CRUNCHES: FINCLUB
