MARHABA MARHABA!!!

Trichy, 9th August: It was time to welcome the batch of BIM 23 and get them partying. The Fresher Party given by BIM 22 to the fatchas of BIM 23 was yet another memorable event. The event was organized by the KALAICOM on 24th of July, and started off with a bang. The theme for the gala night was inspired by the famous Arabian Nights and aptly titled ‘MARHABA’, which in Arabic means ‘HELLO’.

The fresher parties in BIM have always been famous for title hunts. This time it was the turn of Aladdin and Jasmine to find their respective identities in BIM23. The preliminaries for selecting the prospective contenders for the titles were held 2 days before the D-day, which comprised of treasure hunt and other team performances. Based on their performance, final participants were selected.

Before rallying for the carnival, the students of PGP 1 and PGP2 treated their taste buds with sumptuous dinner in the mess. Once again the chemistry between the two ‘com’s namely Kalaicom and Messcom worked really well.

The program commenced with a prayer song followed by speeches given by Prof Sundar, Prof Jawahar, Prof Sriraman, Prof Raghavendra and Prof Prasanna.

The amusement sparked off with a spectacular dance performance by the girls of BIM22. Then the title hunt started with the announcement of participants in pairs. They introduced themselves and ramp walked. All this time the panel of judges for the night comprising of – Arun Chacko, Gayathri, Vinod and Suprabhat was evaluating their each step and every word.

The second round was the Talent round, which was elimination one. Every participant had to impress the judges with their spontaneity to the weird and not so weird questions that the judges kept on bombarding them with. While the judges were still compiling the results for the second round, the audience was once again engrossed with a magical dance performance by the girls and guys of PGP 2. The third round was ‘adapt tunes’ in which the contenders had to match their steps and coordinate with their respective partners. The ‘adapt tunes’ were very BIM like with a hint of humour. Later came the much-needed entertainment in the form of a humorous musical skit, which made the audience roar into laughter. This was the skit ‘Munna Anna’ already popular with the BIMites. The tone of the skit was very well carried on by the talented set of actors of PGP2. It was followed by an awe-inspiring performance by Aravind of PGP2 who blended fire with music.

Then the fourth round of the title hunt resumed, in which the participants were asked to convince the judges "Why the only life boat available on a sinking Titanic should be given to his/her respective partner and not to oneself". The replies were clever and witty. The final round of the title hunt had the participants take stand on whether the curfew for girls should be removed or advanced. The girls had to speak against the topic and the guys had to do for it. The next section was all about the introduction of members of various committees. The judges announced the much-awaited results of the title hunt. Finally, Archana and Partibhan secured the titles of Jasmine and Aladdin respectively. The still night stirred up with a bang on the dance floor at around 12 .30 a.m. With the party hard crowd dancing to the tunes till 3.00 a.m., the fun-filled hours came to a still with the wee hours calling in the close of the jamboree. The students of PGP II and I left to their cells, leaving the Eastern Gardens still linger with the scent of celebration of MARHABA.

PRE-PLACEMENT RECRUITMENTS AT BIM

Trichy, 9th August: With the newcomers settling in, PGP 2 has started their hunt to carry on their legacy. Though ‘PLA’COM had a tough time explaining people that their abbreviation was PLACEMENT COMMITTEE and had nothing to do with sport activities, they set the stage afire by picking their 10, after a gruelling 4 days process. Once done, the arena was open for all other clubs & committees to recruit their new team. All possible HR techniques learnt from HRM, OB were set into action during the process, right from giving in the job specification, job descriptions to conducting structured and unstructured interviews. This year, it was unanimously decided and accepted by BIM22 that no student could join more than one committee sparing Radiance, thus giving opportunity for most of the student to work in a team and bring the best out of them for BIM. With almost all the new clubs formed, BIM23 too has matched the pace by selecting their STUDENTS COUNCIL. We all are expecting the new teams to keep up to their fellow mates expectations.
