Alumni Induction Programme – Chennai

Trichy, 18-04-2006: The Alumni Induction Programme held on the 14th at The Aruna Inn, Chennai was an interesting experience. The alumni were present in strength for this path-breaking endeavour of the 21st Batch. There was an infectious enthusiasm in the air which was felt by all the participants. Encouragingly, there were senior alumni right from the 1st Batch. They were all gathered to welcome into the alumni fold the younger members of the flock belonging to the 21st Batch. The event began with Mr. Bilesh welcoming the gathering. Mr. Jose Thankamony, President of the BIM Alumni Association, took centre stage and introduced the office bearers of the Alumni Association.

The students of BIM 21 then made a presentation to their seniors about what they had done during their eventful stay in BIM. Scenes from life in BIM flashed past evoking nostalgic memories. This was followed by some variety entertainment in the form of role-plays and other casual presentations. Ms Ramya had the honour of presiding over the pranks. After the laugh fest, a few of the senior alumni members were called on to talk about their experiences in BIM. The enthusiastic volunteers narrated tales of their unforgettable days in BIM led along by Ms Anupriya.

There was a passionate presentation on serious issues facing BIM made by the students of the 21st Batch of BIM, through a representative, which was very well received. It raised many thought provoking questions in the minds of the audience. A surprisingly short presentation by the BIM News Agency editor brought the curtain down on the official programmes.

The event concluded with a light supper. It was a welcome opportunity for all the members of the BIM Family to socialize and network. The members of BIM 21 used the alumni induction programme as one more meeting where they could bid farewell to their dear batch mates. The meeting facilitated the joining of many new members into the BNA Family and the BNA’s very own Nostalgia 2006 compilation CDs were distributed free, thanks to a very generous subsidy from BIM. It was a very memorable evening for all members of the BIM Family who were part of the gathering.

BMA Issue Discussed in Alumni Meet

Chennai, 14-04-2006: Before the Alumni Induction Programme started, the senior alumni discussed the BMA issue in much detail. Mr. Murugesh Ramiah made a fervent presentation before the gathering to preserve ‘Brand BIM’. He said that he had met Director Prof. M. Sankaran and that the meeting with Prof. M. Sankaran had been very productive. Mr. Murugesh said that the Director had promised to effect some critical changes so that the new institute, which was part of BIM, Trichy’s growth strategy, could be BIM, Bangalore with the BMA’s role being very minimal. A task force has been formed by the BIM Alumni Association to follow the progress on the BMA issue and take appropriate action whenever necessary. All the alumni gathered expressed their heartfelt desire that the issue should be amicably sorted out so that BIM could concentrate on its growth and development.

Prof. Sankar Leaves BIM

Nagercoil, 20-04-2006: Professor M. Sankar has left Bharathidasan Institute of Management, Trichy. He is an alumnus of the 16th Batch. He has been teaching students from the time he completed his MBA. Academically brilliant, he is a multiple Gold Medallist in his B. Tech., M. Tech. and MBA. He is a storehouse of knowledge on many diverse and varied fields. He has awed and amazed students time and again with his surprising depth and exhaustive learning in almost any subject under the sun. Above all, he is a person who is willing to stick to his values and principles at any cost.

A hard worker and a meticulous planner, it is his boast that he prepares 3 hours for every hour he lectures. Students have always found his courses enormous value-additions. Prof Sankar has been the person responsible for introducing cutting edge courses like Securities and Portfolio Management, Derivative Securities, Developing Business Models, etc. The level of commitment shown by this inspiring role model has pushed many a BIMite to achieve greater heights.

Teaching the students opting to specialize in Finance and Operations, he ensures that the students are conceptually sound. The way in which he taught Calculus, both Integral and Differential, to the clueless students in the very first trimester speaks volumes about his attention to strong fundamentals. He has numerous fans on campus who admire him for his unique qualities. He has always been a ‘friend’ of the students outside the class. But once he goes into the classroom, he is an entirely different person aware of the great responsibility he shoulders.

Prof. M. Sankar was awarded the prestigious Samajshree National Award for his excellence as a teacher and his quest for perfection. A person with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, he is also a scholar of Sanskrit. A talented singer gifted with a divinely melodious voice, his impromptu concerts result in many lovers of classical Carnatic Vocal Music being treated to exquisite renditions of their favourite ragas. The credit for making ‘Bajagovindam’ one of the most popular tunes on campus goes to Prof. Sankar.

The gratitude and love of the students was very much visible during the Farewell Party arranged for Prof. M. Sankar at the Vasanta Bhavan Hotel in Trichy. The BNA joins the BIM campus community in wishing him all the very best in life. It has indeed been a privilege to have studied under the tutelage of one so great. All his students will proudly claim association with him as one of the men who shaped their lives in BIM. It is certain that undying respect for Prof. M. IT’S THE TIME TO DISCO…

Trichy, 12th April: As the days went by, PGP1 and PGP2 were counting their days together here at BIM. Everybody wanted to make the most out the time they had together by snatching every opportunity to enjoy and making every moment memorable. Party, treats and fun were the words ringing in the campus every night with only a few days to go for the completion of the academic year. Thai, Sangam, Jenny's, REC dhabba, Kannapa's, and Azeez biriyani shop were the places all BIMites were flocking in with their buddies these days. Everyone had a treat booked up every night celebrating the placements and their time here. While Guys had fun the whole night outside, girls had a great time inside. They enjoyed and entertained themselves inside LH, playing games, music and so on.

The whole year flew away in wink of an eye. Every moment from DAY 1 here, starting with the ice breaking sessions, MARWAR, foxtrot, BIM Talkies, Thanksgiving, Diwali, Christmas, new year, republic day, volleyball tournament, Yorker 2006, Holi, Farewell was full of fun. PGP1 will definitely miss the 'mokkai' sessions during the teatime in the night and 'quests' in the CC.
On the whole there is definitely going to be a space left by the seniors which will stay empty even as the rooms and places are going to be occupied by the juniors the next year, as the selection process is on for BIM23 batch.

LADIES’ NIGHT OUT

Trichy, 12th April: It's said and felt that world ends for LH when the gates close at 9:30pm, but enjoyment was at its peak on 27th of March night. The occasion was the 'LH' night, an exclusive event unplugged. The themes were given to the PGP2 a day before so that each team (each room) could decide upon their costume for the night. The stage was set into action as each team came out displaying their themes, which were 'Hawaiian', 'Unity in Diversity', 'Movies', 'Tribes', 'Halloween', 'Fairytales', 'Patriotism', 'Colours', and the 'Siamese ‘triplets’. As the groups made their entry, the request and the songs dedicated were played which carried specific messages. The entry of the 'Tribes' group was a dance performance for the song 'Jumbalakka' which gave the perfect start for all the actions to follow. The first round of ramp walk started, where each team marketed themselves trying to impress the judges for the day's title of 'The Lost Room'. As the first round ended, homemade' bhel puri was served to all with rasagullas and cool drinks. Games followed. The first game was 'Shipwreck' as each person had to convince the captain 'why she should be given the life boat'. The captain was none other than Faiza of PGP1 and the various personalities who participated were 'Aiswarya Rai' Sumashini, 'MS Subbulakshmi' BOSS- Thenral, Premananda' Arthi, 'Micheal Jackson' Thilakavathy and so on.

As a full round of 'Shipwreck' was done, fun started in form of 'relay' which had 'lemon on spoon' to be passed among the players. This was the quarterfinal, while 'sack race' was the qualifying round for semi finals. All the teams took part with high spirit and two teams qualified for the Grand finale. The teams were 'Hawaiian' and 'Fairy Tales' who faced the challenge of dressing one of the team member as "Chandramukhi"(a celebrated horror movie character in Tamil). The air turned electric as the two chandramukhis, Anitha and Deepthi Aswani, danced for the song "Raa raa", and tried to impress the judges with their classic performance. In the meanwhile, the show was interrupted by a commotion outside the LH gate. The uninvited always-curious 'guys' were trying to grab the girls' attention by honking their cars and bikes, which were parked on the other side of the LH gate. The girls too responded to them by playing the song "Who let the dogs out???" As they retreated to their dens, 'The lost Room' contest resumed.

The final round had intricate questions directed towards each person. Many secrets were unravelled as the questions from the audience were fired at each participant. As the last round turned interesting, a few of PGP1 girls were also pulled on to the road. Then the judges, Valambal, Yazhini, and Pallavi of PGP1 announced the much-awaited results. Room '83' was awarded the 'The Lost Room'. The winners of the contest, Hawaiians received a bowl full of chocolates as the prize, which were shared between everyone. And to end the show, the girls hit the dance floor at 2, which went on till 3 p.m.

The credit goes to both PGP2 and PGP1 for making the show a great success. PGP2 took pains in dressing up for the show and keeping up the spirit throughout. PGP1 worked hard as the show was planned just a day before. Right from purchasing the necessary items for making the bhel puri, to decorating the LH street, high involvement was seen in giving our seniors a pleasant and an enjoyable party, which will be cherished for years to come.

Siya Bonga: BIM21 SAYS GOODBYE

Trichy, 12th April: BIM21 finally leaves the campus today. The batch that will always be remembered for the honors it brought to the Institute. The batch that will always be remembered to have achieved everything what others believed was impossible. The batch that will always be remembered for the friendship and bonding among the batch mates. The batch that will always be remembered for what it was like. The batch that will always be remembered for the Thanksgiving party they threw to their juniors, BIM22. The evening started with some really delicious delicacies that were served in the special tents that were put beside the East End Gardens. Since the evening coincided with the Telugu New Year eve, UGADI, the menu was specially given a spicy tinge.

Sudhan and Indu played the anchors for the evening. The theme for the evening was Siya Bonga, which in Afrikaan means ‘Good Bye’. Dr. Jayasankaran and Dr. T.V. Subramaniam graced the evening. The evening started with each of the lecturers being invited to come up onto the stage and deliver their last lessons to the outgoing batch. While some of them asked the ‘almost managers’ to use what they had learnt in the class room, the others simply bombarded this by referring to these classroom lessons as garbage and asked the outgoing students to be practical and just use common sense. In short, it was a good infotaining session for the audience.

This was followed by the cultural events that were staged by the groups of the students of PGP2. The highlight of the evening was a short 2 minutes dance by Pari, the 4- year-old daughter of Santosh, PGP1 who is visiting her father these days. Audience was also entertained by the dance performances by GK and Group, Spice Girls & DJ and Aparna. The skit performed by the members of ‘EPP’ group tried to add some message to the otherwise masala evening and was widely appreciated. The screening of some videos showing how BIM21 spent its 2 years at campus that were framed by the kalai-com followed this. Videos showing different groups of friends like Mavericks, EPP, Navratnas were shown. The highlight of this screening was the notorious activities of Aruloli that had been captured.

As usual, the evening came to an end with the dance floor. The evening was definitely a memorable one. All credit goes to Kalaicom members who with the help of Messcom members arranged for such a nice party.

FINDING NEVERLAND: BIM22 Bids Farewell to BIM21

Trichy, 28th March: Shining girls and glittering guys, all dressed up to find Neverland. Two years ago these 120 odd people had nothing in common, but now they find themselves bound by one single link; the link of affection, the link of memories of many great and some not so great times that they shared during their stint here, the link of a force called ‘BIM’. It was the eve of 16th of March, the eve of farewell when BIM22 officially said ‘bye bye’ to their seniors BIM21.The theme of the event was ‘Finding Neverland’ as chosen by the event managers ‘Kalaikom’ of PGP1. The dress code for the evening was ethnic.

The farewell party started with the usual ‘special’ food in the mess. To start with, Prof. Sundar, Prof. Ramesh, Prof. Raghvendra and Prof. Jawahar wished PGP2 good luck for their future.

Each PGP2 student was given a candle, which got the source of light from Prof. Sundar’s candle. The bonding between the seniors and juniors was staged and the event turned highly nostalgic, as PGP2 handed their light to their PGP1 buddies.

Later, Dharmaraj Sir selected the nominees for the ‘Peter Pan’ & ‘Tinkerbell’ contest. The ‘so-called’ randomly selected couples included ‘Algates’ Algappan MR & ‘Metallica’ Meha lal, Ajoy Kumar & ‘Queen of PRCOM’ Kamatchi, ‘Sensible’ Vasant & ‘Cutie pie’ Kavitha, ‘Aaasthaa Sirrr’ Astha & ‘Syswhiz’ Shantanu and ‘maddy’ Madhu & ‘family’ Sharmitra. After the brief introduction of the couples and a ramp walk, the mementos were presented to the PGP2 students by the PGP1. As PGP2 climbed the podium for receiving the memento, an exclusive song was played in the background for each person, depicting his or her life at ‘BIM’. The best was “Bhaja Govindam’ for Sankar sir’s pet Mani.

This was followed by the distribution of prizes by Sports-com and Fin-club for Yorker 2006 and Yudhvidya 2006 respectively. Meanwhile, to make farewell 2006 more memorable every member of the outgoing batch signed on the pyramid of the ‘Bon Voyage’, which also carried autographs of some of the popular groups.

Then the contest started with 5 rounds where the couples were asked to find original tracks from alternates, answer questions like ‘what is the name of the boy working in ‘OMSHREE’, and anagrams. Before the results were announced, members of PGP 1 entertainmentained the audience with skits and dances.

Finally ‘Sensible’ Vasant and ‘Cutie Pie’ Kavitha were crowned with the ‘Peter Pan’ & ‘Tinkerbell’ titles.

The event ended with the usual, most favored song, ‘Mustafa’, as everyone climbed the stage for a group snap, before hitting the dancefloor. Even though it was a BIM22 show, Kalaikom of BIM21 put their heart and soul into the event and made it a grand success. This event shall be remembered and cherished by BIM21 and BIM22 for years to come.

BIMites PAINT THEMSELVES IN ‘COLORS OF JOY

Trichy, 24th March: Colour was the order of the day. The celebrations started in the morning with the music waking up BIMites earlier than usual. The budding managers soon put huge inventories of colours, both dry and wet, to optimal use. ’Unity in Diversity’ was colourfully exemplified, as after an hour of smearing bright powders and squirting coloured water at each other, identification became nearly impossible.

Exhausting hours of playing were followed by some pet-pooja. Everyone’s appetite was satisfied with awesome samosas, rasagullas, kachoris and cool drinks that were served in the afternoon. These celebrations, to some extent, helped many to fulfil their dreams of looking ‘fair & lovely’.

This extravagant but fun filled use of water by the BIMites forced BHEL water board to take up certain actions that they would not do on normal days. The credit goes to the organising team members who whole-heartedly worked towards making the festivities as enjoyable as possible.
